AI coding agents made “I could build that myself” a real question instead of a joke. Can I Code This? answers it for a growing register of SaaS products, one at a time.

Every product gets a single verdict — BUILD IT, BORDERLINE, or JUST PAY — plus an honest effort estimate (an evening, a weekend, a real project, not worth starting), the vendor’s list price, a vibe score out of 100, and the free or
open-source alternatives that already exist. 

Where a product is genuinely worth rebuilding, there’s a ready-to-paste prompt to start from.
The interesting part is how often the answer is “just pay.”

Linktree is a list of links on a page and costs $9/mo — build it. Figma holds a vector canvas in sync at 60fps across a design team — pay, gladly. 

Most tools sit somewhere in between, and the register says exactly where and why.

No affiliate links, no sponsorships, no aggregated review scores. 

Just a verdict, the reasoning, and what you’d actually be signing up to build.

### Problem

I kept catching myself thinking “I could build that in a weekend” about tools I was paying for. Sometimes that was true. Often it very much wasn’t, and I only found out three weekends in. So I started writing the answer down for each tool, with the reasoning, and it turned into a register that keeps growing.

### Solution

An independent register of SaaS tools, each with a verdict on whether you could rebuild it with an AI coding agent or whether paying is the smarter call.

### What makes it unique

Most “alternatives to X” sites are affiliate farms that recommend whatever pays best. This one frequently tells you to keep paying the incumbent — roughly a third of the register lands on JUST PAY — because the honest answer for tools with real moats is that rebuilding is a bad trade. The verdicts are editorial judgements with the reasoning shown, not scraped review scores.
