What does this SSL checker verify?

It opens a TLS connection to the host, reads the peer certificate, and reports trust status, validity dates, subject, issuer, SANs, protocol, and fingerprint.

What does “authorized” mean?

Authorized means Node's CA store trusts the certificate chain for that hostname. Browsers may still disagree if their trust stores differ.

How soon should I renew a certificate?

Renew before the last 14 days. This tool warns when expiry is under two weeks or already past.
