Prompt: make your whole site readable by AI agents
Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor or Codex inside your repo. The agent maps your routes, shows you a plan, then adds a markdown version of every public page, llms.txt, llms-full.txt, ai.txt and the head tags AI agents look for. It's the same prompt we ran on ScrollLaunch, and the results are linked below.
Copy prompt
The prompt
Paste it into an agent that has your repo open. It plans first and waits for your OK before writing code.
Or paste one line
Fetch https://www.scrolllaunch.com/prompts/ai-readable-site.md and carry out the prompt in its "Prompt" section on this repo. Show me your plan before writing code. For agents that can fetch URLs. The agent pulls the full prompt from this page's markdown version, which includes the last step above.
What you get
What your repo has when the agent is done
/any-page.mdandAccept: text/markdownreturn a clean markdown version of that page- One renderer registry, so a new page needs one line to get its markdown version
/llms.txtand/llms-full.txtbuilt from code, so they never go stale/ai.txtwith permissions, restrictions and attribution rules- robots.txt that lets AI search crawlers in and asks you about each training bot
ai-summarymeta on every page, plus Organization and WebSite JSON-LD on the homepage<link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown">on every HTML page- A test that fails when a public route has no markdown renderer
The result
We ran this prompt on ScrollLaunch
These are live files on this site, built by the same prompt. Open them to see what yours will look like.
Check your result
Deployed? Score your site
Runs your live URL through the free GEO / AI Citation Checker. Free AI citation readiness checker - llms.txt, ai.txt, robots, JSON-LD, markdown twins. No fake ChatGPT rankings.
If every step lands, expect 95 out of 100. The last 5 points are for an MCP discovery file, which only makes sense if you run an MCP server, so the prompt skips it on purpose. Blocking training bots like GPTBot doesn't cost points.
How to use
4 steps from paste to deploy
- 1
Open your repo in a coding agent
Claude Code, Cursor (agent mode), Codex or Windsurf. It needs to read files and run commands, so a chat window without your code won't work.
- 2
Paste the prompt
Use the Copy prompt button. The agent reads the codebase first and replies with a route inventory and a file plan. Nothing gets written yet.
- 3
Review the plan, then say OK
Check the route table. Make sure admin, dashboard and draft pages are excluded, then tell it to go ahead.
- 4
Run the curl checks and deploy
The prompt ends with a verification list. Once it passes locally, deploy and run your live URL through the GEO checker.

Questions
AI-readable site prompt FAQ
Does this hurt my Google rankings?
No. Every markdown response is sent with X-Robots-Tag: noindex and points to the HTML page as canonical, and .md URLs stay out of the sitemap. Google keeps indexing your HTML pages as before.
Will it change how my pages look?
No. The prompt tells the agent not to change any HTML page. Browsers, curl and link previews still get HTML. Markdown is only served for a .md URL or when a client asks for text/markdown.
Which frameworks does it work with?
Next.js (App or Pages Router), Astro, Remix and SvelteKit. The agent detects the framework first and adapts. We ran it on a Next.js App Router site with a MongoDB backend.
Is llms.txt actually used?
Support varies by AI product and none of them publish a guarantee. What does hold: agents that fetch pages on demand (Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT browsing) spend far fewer tokens on markdown than on HTML, and llms.txt gives them a map so they don't have to crawl your nav.
