Prompt: turn your own data into pages ChatGPT and Perplexity cite

Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor or Codex inside your repo. The agent finds the data you already own, matches it to questions people ask AI assistants, and builds the pages data sites get cited for: an original statistics page per dataset, ranked lists that state a count, entity pages with the facts up front, and a FAQ where every answer has its own link. Every number comes from one tested calculation.

What you get

What your repo has when the agent is done

  • A plan table: question people ask AI, the dataset that answers it, the page and the headline number
  • One pure, tested calculation per dataset that every page, the FAQ and llms.txt read from
  • /research/<topic> pages with anchored findings, breakdown tables, methodology and a suggested citation
  • Ranked list pages titled with count and year, opening with a quotable summary, built from cleaned rows
  • Entity pages with an at-a-glance fact block and fact-based meta descriptions
  • An FAQ with a link per answer and numbers that can't drift from the data
  • llms.txt entries carrying the headline numbers, markdown versions, and AI crawlers named in robots.txt

Check your result

Deployed? Score your site

Runs your live URL through the free GEO / AI Citation Checker. Free AI citation readiness checker - llms.txt, ai.txt, robots, JSON-LD, markdown twins. No fake ChatGPT rankings.

The GEO checker scores whether AI crawlers can read and parse a page: robots rules, llms.txt, markdown, structured data. Whether you actually get cited depends on the numbers being worth quoting, which no checker can score. Track that in Bing Webmaster Tools and by asking the assistants your target questions.

How to use

4 steps from paste to deploy

  1. 1

Open your repo in a coding agent

Claude Code, Cursor (agent mode), Codex or Windsurf, with read access to your database or a recent copy of it.

  2. 2

Paste the prompt and review the plan table

Check each headline number is something you'd stand behind and that the sample is big enough. Cut anything built on fields users fill in carelessly.

  3. 3

Say OK and check the numbers by hand

The agent builds the calculation, pages and tests, then lists every headline number with the code that produced it. Spot-check two or three against your database.

  4. 4

    Deploy, submit and tell people

Submit the sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, ping IndexNow, then send the research page to people who write about your topic. Their links are what make answer engines trust it.

Questions

AI-cited data pages prompt FAQ

Why would ChatGPT cite my page instead of a bigger site?

Assistants look for a page that states the exact fact being asked about, with a source and a date. A big site with general advice loses to a smaller one that says "433 of 864 directories are free and dofollow" and shows how it counted. Original numbers are the one thing nobody else can copy from you.

Do I need a lot of data?

No, but it has to be yours and big enough to say something. A few hundred rows is enough for shares and medians. The prompt drops any finding with fewer than about 20 rows behind it instead of stating a shaky number.

Is this programmatic SEO?

Partly, but the prompt forbids the bad kind: no pages for every combination of filters, no near-duplicate lists, no invented numbers. One page per real question, and lists are cleaned before they are ranked.

How long until it shows up in AI answers?

Usually weeks, not days. The pages need to be crawled and indexed by Google and Bing first, since ChatGPT search and Copilot lean on Bing. Links from people who quote your numbers speed it up more than anything on the page itself.
